One should never make any decision in state of desperation. i experienced the same today. Almost after 2 months or so i was at my residence on a saturday afternoon. Otherwise almost every weekend either i am not in town or i leave home saturday morning itself. And so this fact was actually pinching me a lot. And in this moment of desperation, i decided to watch a movie called - "Guzaarish".
As usual the movie is full of the monotonous typical Sanjay Leela Bhansali styled scenes. Like all his previous movies, again many of the scenes are shot in dark. This reminds me of the offices of many indian corporate firms that were on the cost cutting missions during recession and were saving on power bills by putting off ACs and lights during lunch time. Although i am not against the conservation of electricity but still i feel that few of the scenes of the movie do deserve more light. This dark movie is just a follow-up from the earlier movies - Sawariyaan and Black.
Then there are the stereotyped sets which were backdropped with colored curtains. This had been coming in his movies since the time of Hum dil de chuke sanam except that the curtains were yellow and green then which turned to blue in Sawariyaan, black in Black and now they are red. The bunglow in which Hrithik stays in the movie Guzarish is also very similar to the house in movie Black. Its like forming a new reel by cutting and rearranging the reels from the earlier movies. Its time that SLB should sign a new Art Director.
One of the disturbing part of the movie comes when people (in movie) suddenly change the opinion in favor of Hrithik without any reason even when Hrithik fails to defend himself on radio and people deny his petition. Although this kind of illogical upside down turns are so common in our Bollywood that this seems to be bothering me very less now.
My another query is why the protagonist is a magician. The only certain reason seems to be that he wants to add to the factor of grandeur by showing the unusual flying skills of our magician. I remember my parents going to Subhash Ghai's movies for what they called them 'bhavya' (means Grand in Hindi). In fact this movie can be also called another mega-scale exhibition of the Grand interiors.
Adding to that songs are average but lyrics totally unimpressive. Only one song which could have made impression was sung with the lyrics 'sau gram'(100 grams) lending it an impression of a typical negotiation at a vegetable vendor for Bhindi prices rather than a romantic song. Still the music is OK and can be murmured until the music launch of next Bollywood flick.
But even after this, anything which can help you sit through the whole movie is Hrithik's acting. He has done absolute justice to the character and his dialogue delivery and expressions perfectly complement it. Also another lovable actor is Shernaz Patel (playing character of Devyani Dutta). In fact she could have done more justice to the character of Sophia (played by Aishwarya). I guess even if anyone wants to see the movie, these two reasons are not enough but still one can do the 'guzaara' with the movie Guzaarish because of Shernaz and Hrithik.
All in all, this time i feel that the chef SLB has just served the mixed vegetable of the menu items from ingredients of all the previous dinners .
