Tigers BHAU and Solar operated satellite camera

Travelogue or a narration, I could not decide what this blog would be. But then It struck me what I could remember from the Kurinjal gudda trek was moments and that’s what I wish to capture here. Here is an attempt to immortalize those moments full of enjoyment and fun although not in a chronological order.

Scene 1: Walking to the nature camp gate at night
Just after a yummy dinner, the trekking group decided to take a walk to the gate of the Nature camp, the place where we were residing for a night before hitting the trek next day. It was all dark on both sides and two of us were carrying huge super focus torch lights with us, but to enjoy the darkness of nights both of the lights were off. Occasionally we were putting it on and trying to search some wild animal in the jungle which was running parallel to our walkway. Gradually we all fell into a discussion on what if suddenly some tiger or bison comes n block our way. Everybody was coming with some or other comment but this guy, not satisfied with any of the response, rephrased the question as “agar abhi ek tiger aaya aur BHAU kiya to kya karega” and we all burst into a laugh imagining the tiger barking like a dog. And am sure if tiger was around us somewhere hiding in grass then, even he would have found it difficult to control his chuckle. We all could not stop recalling this moment of making a tiger bark through out our trip.

Scene 2: Serious discussion on India and Next generation
Before the yummy dinner, four-five of us engaged into a discussion on how the next generation of India is better equipped to face the competition and how the Indo-China relationships are going to affect our progress in the global scenario. The discussion was full of facts and figures but I really enjoyed this discussion which reminded me of the serious discussion we used to have during my college days although very rarely but truly interesting.

Scene 3: Conflict with the leaches
The trek to the Kurinjal peak was full of leaches as told to us by our guide and escorts. So we were advised not to stop for long at any point in the forest until we reach a safer place. But our speed could not outpace the leaches and they started achieving their share of blood which was flowing in our veins. Whenever the leaches tried to reach us many of us panicked and started applying various leach proof sprays n ointments and so the scene was getting pretty tense with everybody’s mind occupied with leach-encountering techniques. And then came the manger( This manager had his junior with him who could not understand hindi and was so caring that translated all sentences spoken in Hindi to him). When leaches tried to mess with this guy, he started hitting them with a 2 liter bottle full of water. The scene was so comic that everybody forgot the stressed moments and bothered less about the leaches further down the trek.

Scene 4: Solar operated satellite camera
Our Trek coordinator, who was dearly missing his fiancée, was feeling very bad for the non-availability of network of the Mobile companies. And we started giving him some teasing suggestions as wired as to purchase a satellite phone before his next excursion. And then came a suggestion to buy solar operated satellite camera. Again we had a hearty laugh and could never picture that how such funny things can strike our mind when we are literally jobless, doing nothing but enjoying ourselves.

Scene 5: At the Kurinjal peak
It was past noon, by the time we reached the peak and we were all just dumbstruck by the view around us. On the other tip of the hill was a beautiful contraption of rocks so neatly arranged that one could not believe they are naturally lying their. The scenery was so beautiful that I could really feel that the nature is an expert architect. The clouds were at our height and some above us having variation of shades of gray in them. The sky was illuminating with shades of blue and white. We could see a road and few villages very far. All the mountain peaks around were covered with thick forest and few with a cover of grass. The insects in the forest were making a sound in synchronization as if they are composing some music and the blow of fresh air every now and then from different directions was filling our heart with a sensation of pleasure. Throughout the duration of 2 days this was the only time we were all speaking very less. Each one had occupied one rock and was lost in his own world of thoughts and perceptions.

Different people, different perceptions - As said by one of the co-trekker this is all about meeting different people with different perceptions - people with profile as varied as Reliance Insurance manager to a professional Investor thru expert photographers and veteran trekkers; a group consisting of software professionals to core industry consultants thru MBAs and telecom proficient jobbers .

My take aways from the trip would not be very educative or talks may not be very meaningful but they will definitely make me smile coz now I know that tigers bhau bhau, the best way to encounter leaches is to hit them with a bottle full of 2 liters of water and we should be open to invention of solar operated satellite camera.
